Baska police have arrested a man in-charge of throwing acid to five street dogs in Jhakhalipothar area in Barpeta road under Baska district of Assam. Out of five one died on the spot.

The incident took place on 17 December, when Nirmal Das a local youth of the area who spotted the incident immediately informed to the NGOs.The members of ‘The Wagging Tail’ a local organisation working towards animal welfare immediately rushed to the spot and rescued five dogs out of which one died on the spot.
They immediately bought them to a veterinary hospital in Guwahati where treatment is undergoing.

After the horrific incident ‘The Wagging Tail’ with the help of ‘Purr Paws’ and ‘Anaajoree’ filed police complaint against the person demanding punishment to the culprit involved in the incident.

Neelam Das of the organization said, “The dog had been attacked with nitric acid. We have connected with several animal rights organizations and the lactating mothers have been shifted to Guwahati for improved treatment.”

She further said, “Police and the authorities concerned should take strict action against the accused. Besides legal provisions, we demand that the accused be arrested and sent to jail for such an inhuman act.”

Rajkumar Talukdar an Assamese Actor, Animal lover, who has been working for the safety of animals in various places of Assam has also demanded straight punishment to the culprit.

Rajen Boro, In-charge of Simlaguri Police Police, told to this correspondent, “Police have launched a operation to nab the culprit involve in the attack.” 

Later, Baska police arrested the accused, 43-year-old Gautam Basak involved in the gruesome crime. Following the incident they have registered a case no 193/20 US 289/308/429 IPC r/w sec 11 (1) (c) (l) prevention of cruelty to animals act 1960 at Gobardhana PS and sent him to judicial custody in Nalbari district.” he added.
