Speeding light e-rickshaws have emerged as a major concern on the busy roads of Pathsala, with several vehicles reportedly damaged due to rash and reckless driving, causing chaos and fear among commuters.

According to local residents and vehicle owners, light e-rickshaws are frequently seen overspeeding on narrow and congested roads, often ignoring basic traffic rules. Sudden turns, wrong-side driving and overcrowding have led to repeated minor collisions, resulting in damage to two-wheelers, cars and even parked vehicles in several areas of the town.

Shopkeepers and pedestrians said the situation has worsened in recent months, especially during peak hours.

“E-rickshaws move at high speed without warning. Many drivers do not slow down even in crowded market areas,” said a local trader, adding that pedestrians now hesitate to cross roads due to safety fears.

Vehicle owners whose cars and motorcycles were damaged expressed frustration, alleging that there is little accountability. In many cases, e-rickshaw drivers reportedly fled the scene after causing damage, leaving victims to bear repair costs.

Residents have urged the traffic police and local administration to take immediate action by enforcing speed limits, checking driving licences and ensuring proper regulation of e-rickshaw operations.

They also demanded designated routes and parking spaces to reduce congestion and improve road safety.
