A touching new trend is taking shape in Assam as children as young as three years old are beginning to learn and sing songs made popular by Assam’s beloved music icon, Zubeen Garg. Parents say this early interest is unlike anything they have witnessed before.
Many households report that toddlers are naturally picking up Zubeen Garg’s melodies simply by listening to them at home, in vehicles, or during local cultural events. Parents say the little ones hum along with remarkable enthusiasm, often requesting to replay their favourite songs again and again.
“My daughter is just three, but she sings ‘Mayabini’ and ‘Roi Roi Binale’ with surprising clarity,” said a parent from Pathsala.
Local shopkeepers, too, have noticed the trend. Guitars, Casio, Toy microphones and kids’ audio gadgets are selling more than usual, driven by children who want to sing “like Zubeen Garg.”
Many believe this early fascination is not only adorable but also a culturally positive sign. “Zubeen Garg’s songs have always connected generations, but seeing three-year-olds learning them is truly heartwarming,” said a cultural worker.
Many parents say encouraging this interest helps their children bond with Assamese culture from a young age. “Instead of cartoons, my son prefers listening to Zubeen’s songs. It’s a proud feeling,” said another parent.
As tiny voices across Assam sing the melodies of Zubeen Garg, it is clear that his influence continues to inspire and shape the youngest generation of music lovers.
